The Keystone State’s betting industry is about to grow even a bigger thanks to a recent development that will see Penn National Gaming actualize its plans for a brand new mini-casino near York County. Last week, the supervisors of Springettsbury Township voted in favor of the Penn National satellite casino that will be operating as Hollywood Casino York. The gambling venue will be located in York Galleria Mall just off Route 30 – this venue was chosen because of its strategic position near the state’s southern border. Keeping that in mind, it is expected that the mini-casino will attract gamers and revelers from neighboring Maryland.

Even though the Springettsbury Township Board of Supervisors voted overwhelmingly in favor of the satellite casino, they were not originally on board with the idea. Fortunately, after some consultation, they reconsidered the prospects of such a project. The Thursday vote effectively authorized a number of developments including the addition of casino signage, landscaping as well as changes to the parking at York Galleria Mall. In addition to that, there are also plans for the development of a 3,000-square-foot building that which will contain an elevator and a stairwell to the actual mini-casino.

Penn National won the bid for the York Country Category 4 satellite casino in early 2018 – it spent $50.1 million on the license. Since the Category 4 mini-casino falls under the state’s expanded gambling laws from October 2017. As such, the York County mini-casino will have between 300 and 750 slot machines as well as up to 30 table games.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) approved another mini-casino plan by Penn National. This involved the development of a Category 4 satellite casino in Caernarvon Township in Berks County. Known as the Hollywood Casino Morgantown, the Category 4 gaming facility was the very first one to be licensed by the gaming control board.

Besides the satellite casinos, Penn National currently operates Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course which also happens to be the first casino in the state to go live with online gambling. In addition to that, it was the first to launch a retail sportsbook.

To foster the growth of its new business plans, Penn National has signed a number of important deals. These deals are mostly geared towards ensuring that the company thrives in the online casino and online sports betting fields. These deals were signed with technology provider Kambi Group as well as with DraftKings, The Stars Group, theScore, and PointsBet.
